Senior Recognition Ceremony -- Wednesday, 7pm @ stadium
We want you to have an idea of what will happen on Wednesday evening at our Senior Recognition Ceremony. Please read to the end so you know what to expect. All parents are invited to attend.
The idea behind the Ceremony is to celebrate our seniors the day before their last home game so they can fully enjoy the evening. In the past, senior recognition has happened after the game (gets way too late, what if they lose and are angry, could be cold) or before the game (interferes with pre-game warmup, distracts players from game preparation, can be interrupted by opposing team's warmup). We tried the Senior Recognition on the night before the last home game in 2021, and it worked really well. Several players commented that they could enjoy it without worrying about the game and being distracted.
The ceremony is scheduled to start at 7pm. We need all players and senior families to gather on the track by the south gate at 6:45pm. Senior players should wear their blue jersey and warmup pants.
The underclassmen players and cheerleaders will form 2 lines about 6 feet apart leading from the 15 yard-line to the midfield S. The cheerleaders will be at the beginning near the track, and football players spread towards midfield. The end of the receiving lines will be the coaches, close to midfield. Senior players will wait on the track for their names to be read by the announcer. Senior parents and families will gather at midfield by the S. Parents should get their players blanket and a candy leis from the junior parents who are helping and be ready to greet their player and take photos.
When their name and bio is read, each senior will walk from the sideline towards midfield between the 2 lines of underclassmen. This gives all the players a chance to thank the seniors and wish them the best in their future. Don't be surprised if it takes several minutes for players to make their way to midfield. The announcer will pause briefly, and then announce the next player. **** Senior parents, you submitted wonderful bios of your sons. I have edited the bios for Wednesday evening, to make them all approximately the same length for announcing. The complete bios will be published in full in Thursday's program with a great photo of the seniors.****
When the player gets to midfield, after they have finished greeting their coaches, then it is the parent's turn. Greet your player, tell him how awesome he is, give him his senior blanket, put on the candy leis and get ready to pose for a picture. Our photographer Betsey Bowen will be there to take a photo of each family. Make sure you stand on the mark as directed by the junior parents who are helping. The photos will be sent the next day. After a family photo, players can get a photo with Coach Rowbotham. As families finish their photo, please move to the side so other families can enjoy their moments.
When all the players have gone thru the line, the announcer will then announce the senior cheerleaders. The senior cheerleaders can run thru individually or as a group, but we want to recognize them and thank them for cheering at our games.
Once everyone is thru the lines, we want to get a group photo of all the seniors and their families around the midfield S.
After the group photo, we need everyone to move to the sidelines so the cheerleaders can do a short performance to celebrate our senior players.
When the cheerleaders are done, please join us at the tables on the track for a treat to celebrate our seniors! The event should be about 45 minutes in length.
On Thursday night, the game will be on TV. The team will come onto the field in the Eagle Walk, with the seniors at the front. When the captains come to midfield for the coin toss, all the seniors will line up behind the seniors. After the coin toss, the names of the seniors will be read, and they will each step forward and wave to the crowd.
If you purchased a street banner, we have them back from Millcreek City. Andrea and Hilarie will have them at the senior ceremony and game for you to take home.
Thanks for making it to the end of this email—I hope you are excited about Wednesday's program! It's hard to believe we are at the last home game of the regular season.
